About the North Penn School District in Montgomery County Pennsylvania

The North Penn School District is a rapidly expanding area. With a population of over 90,000 people, the North Penn School District’s geographic area includes the boroughs of Hatfield, Lansdale, and North Wales, the townships of Hatfield, Montgomery, Towamencin and Upper Gwynedd, and the Village of Line Lexington, totally spanning an area of 42 square miles. The North Penn School District is located in the Philadelphia suburban metro area, about 20 miles north of the city. The district has 13 elementary schools for grades K - 6, 3 middle schools for grades 7 - 9, and 1 high school for grades10-12.

Montgomery County is a desirable, suburban area with excellent school districts, and convenience to the City of Philadelphia. The average selling price of a home in Montgomery County in November 2005 was $338,000. Merck & Co., a large pharmaceutical and research company in North Wales, has brought increased employment opportunities to residents of the area as well as a surge of new construction to accommodate the employees.

Hatfield Borough
The Borough of Hatfield is a quaint community that has a rich early American history. It was officially established in1898, but settlers were in the area much early. The North Pennsylvania Railroad was important in the borough’s early development. You will still find beautiful historic homes on main street and in well-maintained residential areas.

Hatfield Borough encompasses less than 1 square mile. Hatfield Borough residents enjoy a swimming facility, 2 small parks with playgrounds, as well as all the amenities of Hatfield Township residents. Hatfield Township completely surrounds the small borough.

Hatfield Township
Hatfield Township was incorporated in 1742, somewhat later than its neighboring communities. A small northeastern part of the township is called Colmar. Hatfield is approximately 22 miles from Philadelphia.

Hatfield Township started as a farming community but gradually commercial and industrial business moved to the area and created new job opportunities for the residents. Currently the township has several industrial parks including the Hatfield/Lansdale Industrial Center and the large Line Lexington Industrial Park.

Hatfield industries providing employment include Manufacturing at 22%, Education, Health and Social Services at 18.8%, and Retail Trade at 11.8%. 85% of Hatfield residents have a high school diploma, 24% have a Bachelors degree, and 6.4% have a Graduate or professional degree. Lansdale industries providing employment include Manufacturing at 25%, Education, Health and Social Services at 16%, and Retail Trade at 14.2%. 83% of Lansdale residents have a high school diploma, 24.6% have a Bachelors degree, and 7.4% have a Graduate or professional degree. Unemployment is very low at 2.6%. The average travel time to work is 21 minutes.

Lansdale Borough was incorporated in 1872, and was named after Philip Lansdale Fox, chief surveyor for the North Pennsylvania Railroad. It was largely due to the railroads that Lansdale developed into the small thriving community it is today. The historic Pennbrook Station is located in Lansdale. Over the years, after gaining land from bordering townships, the borough has grown to its present 1,896 acres. Today, Lansdale has a flourishing downtown with many small shops and businesses. However, many of those who have a Lansdale mailing address actually reside in neighboring Upper Gwynedd, Towamencin, Montgomery or Hatfield

Lansdale has 9 park sites comprising 125 acres of parkland. Resident can enjoy trails, tennis courts, and organized Little League for the kids. White’s Road Park’s natural amphitheater in Lansdale is the setting for the Concert Series that happens every summer. Lansdale offers 2 outdoor community pools for team sports, lessons, and free swimming. Lansdale’s Bux Mont Summer Swim League competes against local teams.

Lansdale hosts a Festival of the Arts every year in Memorial Park where residents and visitors enjoy local artisans’ wares, a puppet theater for the kids, and great jazz and chamber music.

Line Lexington
The Village of Line Lexington is a very small family-oriented community located in Bucks County. It is conveniently located close to several communities including Hatfield and Montgomery Township. It is home to the Line Lexington Mennonite Church. The Whistle Stop Park is nearby. The average family income is well above the average for the state.

Montgomery Township
Montgomery Township has experienced phenomenal growth in the last 2 decades. The estimated population in 2005 is 24,320 people.

Montgomery Township was established in 1714 and is rich in early American history. The early addition of a network of roadways played a large role in the township’s development and helped to make it what it is today --- a flourishing suburban center with a variety of neighborhoods.

Montgomeryville is a well-established section of the township. Montgomeryville is located near the “5 points intersection” and home to Montgomery Mall and many retail establishments. Even more retail space is being developed for the future in Montgomeryville.

Montgomery Township has hundreds of acres of industrial and office space including the Bethlehem Pike Industrial Center, Montgomeryville Industrial Center and the Hartman Corporate Center.

Residents of the township have access to lots of amenities including three parks, a nature center, a fitness trail, tennis courts and softball fields. Little League programs are run by the Montgomery Township Baseball Association.

North Wales
North Wales is a small community in Montgomery County that is a neighbor to Lansdale. North Wales was incorporated in 1869 and was the first borough created by Montgomery County Courts.

Today, North Wales is home to many professional office buildings and small retail establishments. The high quality of life and its excellent location in the heart of the North Penn region make it a highly desirable place to live and work.

North Wales industries providing employment include Manufacturing at 26%, Education, Health and Social Services at 13.8%, and Retail Trade at 13.9%. 89% of North Wales residents have a high school diploma, 26% have a Bachelors degree, and 9.6% have a Graduate or professional degree. Amenities for North Wales’ residents include a children’s playground, Weingartner Memorial Park, a swimming pool run jointly with Upper Gwynedd Township, and a basketball court. Little League programs are run by the Nor-Gwyn Athletic Association.

Towamencin Township
Settlement in Towamencin Township began as early as 1690. The township was officially established in 1728. The Village of Kulpsville is the center of the township. As with many surrounding communities, access to transportation played a big role in the development of the township. In 1955, the Pennsylvania Turnpike Northeast Extension interchange at Kulpsville was opened, paving the way for the growth of the township.

In the last decade the township has grown significantly. The Mid-County Expressway Blue Route recently opened making travel more convenient for residents and businesses. Midway Business Center is located in the township. Towamencin Township will most likely continue to be a prime location in Montgomery County.

Towamencin Township residents have access to 8 beautiful parks and a township-wide trail system. Other amenities include playgrounds, a swimming pool, and basketball courts.

Upper Gwynedd Township
Gwynedd Township was split in two sections in 1891, creating Upper and Lower Gwynedd Townships. Sunneytown Pike, once an Indian trail, became a major roadway drawing business to the area. Agriculture was the primary industry for the township until after WWII when industrial and residential development sky-rocketed. Merck & Co. has contributed immeasurably to the development of the township and a 33% increase in housing units has occurred over the last 10 years.

West Point is one of the communities in the township. Residents of Upper Gwynedd Township enjoy facilities including playgrounds, fields for softball and baseball, and a public swimming pool. Shopping areas and small retail establishments are located throughout the township.

Real Estate Tips
Financing Your Home >New Loans

If you are considering applying for a mortgage to purchase a new home or to refinance your present home, don't delay. Despite fluctuation in interest rates, lenders are still processing many new loan applications.

You should gather all the necessary paperwork before you apply, and submit your loan application as soon as possible. At a minimum, the information required by a lender will consist of proof of your earnings and a clear picture of your total monthly income and expenses. If you are self-employed, or have long-term obligations such as alimony or child support, the preparation time and the amount of paperwork increases.

Despite the need to move rather quickly for a mortgage in today's market, you should "make haste carefully." Shop carefully for your loan by comparing all costs and terms. With the number of lenders vying for your business, new and better deals are always appearing.
